what is pelvimetry? |
classic pelvic shapes |
The internal structures and pelvic shape are measured by way of a trauma informed and consent based pelvic exam. Every person has a uniquely different pelvis shape, which generally fall into one of the four classic pelvic shapes. Internal dimensions are not indicative of the outside shape of the pelvis. Thus, the old expression "child bearing hips" is not an accurate way of accessing if a baby can pass though a pelvis. Pelvimetry encourages body literacy and self empowerment by connecting to ones own internal dimension and pelvic shape. With more understanding of our unique physiology one can move through the birth process with more confidence and less fear.
